Back To Work

It's been 4 months since my accident and I've started working in our shop again. I've been walking every day and my ankle is about 95% back to pre-accident conditions.

At the end of last year a friend of ours gave me a large Larimar circular cabochon and asked me if I would make her a cuff bracelet. The stone was quite large and I thought it would be too big for a bracelet, but the customer is always right.

At the time I just set it aside but kept thinking about how to build a structure that would support the stone yet look appealing. I ended up making a prototype, which I didn't like and finally settled on 8 gage half round wire interspersed with shorter sections. I think it came out well and our friend loved it.

Feeling a little playful, the next piece I chose was a quarter moon piece of moss agate from Indonesia. In our home I have a time lapse photograph of the 2017 solar eclipse so I sketched out how I could duplicate that type of event with this stone. I made some small copper disks that I soldered to the back plate that somewhat shows the phases of an eclipse.

This is the first piece where I added copper to silver. I think that it came out okay.

With the price of silver and gold skyrocketing I'm going to take a look at incorporating brass into some of my pieces. We'll see what happens.
